Mount Rinjani, Indonesia – The mighty Rinjani mountain of Gunung Rinjani is a massive vulcano which towers over small island developing of Lombok. A climb to the top is one of “the worlds largest” breath taking knows you are able to have in Indonesian. At 3,726 m, Gunung Rinjani is the second highest mountain in Indonesia. The climb to the top may not be easy but it’s worth it, and is widely considered to be one of best available ends in the country.
Within the mountain is a crescent mold lake, the stunning Segara Anak which is a spiritual lieu. The Balinese come here per year and act a ritual to the mountain heart. The Wetu Telu beings too see the pool as righteou and came by pray on full moon lights. This pool of sulfur is unearthed 600 meters below the crater rim. Rising from the irrigates of this lake is a new volcano, Mt Baru, which is a result of a series of explosions during the 1990′ s.
Mt Rinjani lies within the Gunung Rinjani National Park. The ballpark extends 41,330 hectares and sits inside a major bio-geographical modulation zone (Wallacea). This is where the humid flora and zoology of South East Asia fulfills that of Australia. This National park was established in 1997 and is one of over 40 throughout Indonesia.
Three day Rinjani route from Senaru to the crater rim, down to the Crater Lake then on to Sembalun Lwang, is considered one of the best treks in South East Asia. More adventurous trekkers may want to principal all the way to the summit of the volcano. This is best reached from Sembalun Lawang and takes four daylights, finishing up in Senaru.
The most popular path to climb Rinjani is through a four or five daytime hiking excursion, starting at Senaru and finishing at Sembalun Lawang. Trekkers embark from Senaru hiking to the stunning hole boundary, down to the incredible hole reservoir and then onto Sembalun Lawang. Senaru and Sembalun Lawang Villages are the two starting points to ascent Gunung Rinjani. Senaru Village is a three hour drive north of Mataram, while Sembalun Lawang Village is approximately a 4 hours drive to the east of Mataram.
